For most of the assignments you will need art materials: paint, pens, crayons, paper, etc. No specifics are given; however I outline a few examples, both conventional and not, in the second week of the course. Use what makes sense to you in terms of your preferences and budget.

A sketchbook or notebook is handy for taking notes, or for daily "practice" exercises (more about that later).

A digital camera is also needed to record your experiments. Smartphones work just fine!

Your final deliverables, in Weeks 3 and 4, will be a selection of compositional spreads which you will later assemble into a digital book and share using Issuu or a similar platform. While you can complete most of the assignments in this course by hand (I give you instructions on how to do this), you will need Adobe InDesign or a similar program to compose your spreads and assemble your book. Photoshop can also work if you prefer.

While it is possible to complete the course lectures from a mobile device, we recommend using a desktop or laptop computer for all of your assignments. A screen larger than a smartphone screen is recommended for image-based research, in addition to design work.
