In this assignment you are asked to demonstrate a range of representations of your subject.

Make a minimum of 5 images that show a range of representation, from realistic to abstract, as follows:

1. Photographic (closest to representing realistic image, or a “reality”)

2. Hand or digital drawing (observational, some degree of naturalism or realism)

You are encouraged to make more than 5 images, as long as your range begins with "photographic" and ends with your word. You may want to make a lot more than 5 images, so you can select the ones that best fit the “range of representation” criteria.

Arrange your images in a form that makes sense to you and articulates a sense of evolution from image to image. Your arrangement must be on a single page. Export (or scan) your final arrangement as a single page PDF (minimum dimensions: 8.5 x 11 inches, maximum dimensions: 11 x 17 inches; maximum file size: 10 MB).

Tips for Completion 完成技巧

For representational images, try out using some materials in a very time-honored way, like an observational pencil, charcoal or conte crayon drawing with shading. For your next interpretative drawing, perhaps try out a quick gesture drawing with brush and ink. Or see what happens when you do a few blind contour drawings (don’t look at your paper or lift your drawing tool), but for each drawing, use a different drawing tool. Or draw lines with something that isn’t typically used for drawing!

Experiment with styles (bold graphic, brushy, collaging, drawing in a phone drawing app, delicate pencil rendering, scratchy or fluid ink, and so forth) for each of your representations. Consider trying out different ways of creating an expressive line quality.

This is a required, graded assignment, as well as very good practice! Three of your peers will assign you a grade on your submission based on the following criteria:
