This course is an introduction to the large and varied practice of graphic design, it breaks graphic design down into four areas in order to examine them closely: imagemaking, typography, shape/color and composition. Each week there is a short introduction followed by a series of videos that use visual examples to teach core ideas across these areas.

The course is designed to be hands-on. The best way to learn about graphic design is to make graphic design, and practice is the best way to develop your skills. Don't worry about making the right or wrong thing, just MAKE DESIGN!

Each week there is one required assignment, either a peer review or a quiz. You must complete all four successfully to pass the course.

Additionally there are several optional (ungraded) peer review assignments (what I call "briefs") in the course. I would thoroughly encourage you to complete these briefs. These are the areas where you get to apply your knowledge and get feedback from your peers (your audience!) You will learn a lot just by going through the process of completing these briefs, and many of them (especially the final project) will give you a practical platform where you can apply what you have learned each week.
