In order to succeed in this course you will need to know your way around a computer. It's the tool where most graphic design ends up in one way or another. You can complete this course without a computer but it will be tougher.

In addition, a beginner's level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs, such as Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign will really help you, especially if you want to complete the optional briefs. Some well-known freeware alternatives to the aforementioned Adobe programs include Scribus, Gimp, and InkScape. However, if you're serious about being a graphic designer I recommend you invest in Adobe programs since they are a graphic design industry standard.

You'll need some analogue art materials for making images as well. These can be anything you already own—any old art materials you have lying around. Imagemaking, for example, and the focus of the first week of the course, is hands-on and encourages invention and experimentation.
