Module 01 · Introduction to Abnormal Psychology

Open Reflection Question

Coursera ↗

Each module in this course will end with an open reflection question. You may discuss these reflections in the Discussion Forums, but you are not required to turn anything in and you will not be assessed on it. I encourage you to write down your thoughts somewhere - in a journal that you keep, for instance, or on a Google Doc or similar digital space. Throughout the course - and the entire Abnormal Psychology specialization - you can refer to your reflections and consider how your views may or may not be changing.

Module 1 Reflection

Think about your own understanding of the origins and development of psychological disorders. Do you consider them to be brain-based illnesses?  Or the result of early childhood experiences?  Trauma?  Role modeling from significant caregivers?   How does your own personal context – the many aspects of your unique identity – inform your understanding of psychological disorders?
