Module 05 · Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders

Open Reflection Question

Coursera ↗

Each module in this course will end with an open reflection question. You may discuss these reflections in the Discussion Forums, but you are not required to turn anything in and you will not be assessed on it. I encourage you to write down your thoughts somewhere - in a journal that you keep, for instance, or on a Google Doc or similar digital space. Throughout the course - and the entire Abnormal Psychology specialization - you can refer to your reflections and consider how your views may or may not be changing.

Module 5 Reflection Question

The Caqueo-Urizar et. al. article looks at caregiver attitudes toward family members with schizophrenia and asks the question, “Who takes care of the caregiver?”  Given the severity and chronicity of schizophrenia for many people who experience it, as well as the burden on family caregivers over time, can you envision a community treatment model that supports caregivers as well as builds social connections and independence for people who struggle with schizophrenia?  Are you aware of any such programs in your area of the world?
